PERSONAL BIO (THE "LONGER" STORY)
Prior to starting Unveiled, I served for twelve years at International Justice Mission (IJM), a human rights organization that rescues people from slavery and violent oppression around the world. Most recently, I served as Director of Prayer (yes, that was my REAL title!), and had the privilege of inviting thousands of partners to pray for the God-sized issues of justice, rescue and redemption. And there you have it - wrapped in that little title is the story of how God can do ANYTHING and use ANYONE.
Ten years ago I never would have thought I'd serve as a "Prayer Director." I remember when the Lord first began stirring my heart for prayer and calling me out as an intercessor. I had this conversation with the Lord like "What? You want me to do what? What kind of job am I gonna get as an intercessor? Well, a little over a year later (don't worry, I was sure to whine to him for that entire year of waiting), the Director of Prayer role was created and I was invited to step into it.
Around the same time, the Lord began nudging me into my calling as a speaker. This nudge was terrifying. I had a serious fear of public speaking. The prophet Jeremiah and I are good friends. I responded much like Jeremiah did when God called him to be a prophetic voice – “Ah, Sovereign Lord, I don’t know how to speak; I am only a child.” Connie’s translation – “Are you crazy? I can’t speak! I'm terrified!” And the Lord would encourage me as he did Jeremiah, “You must go to everyone I send you and say whatever I command you…for I have put my words in your mouth.”
And so, here I am.
These many years later I am stunned at what God has done. Don't get me wrong, I still get nervous and sometime have to beat down fear when I get up to speak. But God has done what I thought was impossible. First, he gave me a job as an intercessor. Can we pause there, please? I got paid (money!) to lead people around the world to pray for the God-sized issues of justice, rescue and redemption. he positioned me to learn from, serve and coach some of the most gifted speakers and storytellers in the world. And, he gave me a platform, opening doors for me to speak his word of encouragement to Christian leaders across the globe.
I have learned an important lesson so far in this journey. If we say YES to God, he responds with his YES to us. He does far more than we could ask or imagine, and supernaturally enables us to do what we could not do on our own.
Unveiled exists for one reason - to inspire COURAGE out of the wellspring of intimacy with Jesus. It's that simple. Unveiled is all about inspiring and encouraging women who have a voice to use it! And specifically, women who know deep down that God has put a call on their lives to be spokespersons and to declare his truth and encouragement to this generation.
So, I'm on this journey to live courageously and fully Unveiled into the calling God has on my life s a speaker, and most importantly, to bring others along with me!
Will you join me? Come on, there's not time to waste - let's get about the business of living out your purpose!
